We are very excited to announce that we will have a new elementary school opening in September 2023! Our school that we purchased in 2021 has been receiving some upgrades such as sturdier walls and a new roof. For the 2023-2024 school year SoudeHaiti will begin with one class of Kindergarten, one class of first grade, one class of second grade, and one class of third grade opening up four grades. Our plan is to add a new grade over the next three years until we have Kindergarten through six grade.
How can you help, you ask? We would love to have your help to support our new school. The best way to support currently is sponsor a teacher. Did you know that schooling is not free in Haiti? If a family cannot afford to send their child to school, their child does not have the opportunity to learn. The money sent to schools in Haiti for tuition is used to pay the teachers’ salaries. If this is provided then multiple children can go to school for free and lessen the burden of paying for school tuition for families.
It only takes $55 a month to pay a teacher’s salary. That is $495 a year for one teacher that would allow 25 students to go to school for free. If you are financially able to donate we have a few ways to do this. You can donate one time or you can set up monthly payments through our donation page here. 100% of your donation goes straight to the school.
$55 is a low living wage compared to what we are used to, we know. But our teachers will be paid more than regular teachers in the country of Haiti creating a better living environment for our staff. So you will be giving a teacher a larger salary than if they were to teach in other schools within Haiti. Please also take a look at our programs page to receive more information!
